I love being a wedding celebrant in Thailand. Getting married in Thailand is a great idea and has many benefits. Here in Khao Lak there are more and more resorts getting into the wedding business every year. The beaches here are perfect places to tie the knot. Most of the coastline here is pristine and makes for terrific photo opportunities. There are even a few waterfalls that provide enough space and are easy to access.

One of the best reasons to have a wedding in Thailand is that you are already on your honeymoon when you arrive. I have been the local wedding celebrant in Thailand here in Khao Lak for the last 8 years. I have married close to 300 couples in that time. I started out doing them as a favor to my good friend and neighbor named Leisa. She was the general manager at the top resort in the area and the wedding celebrant she had been using was moving back to Australia. One day she asked me, out of the blue, if I would help her out and I gladly accepted. Khao Lak is a lazy beach community where everyone wears shorts and tee shirts. I rarely have a chance to wear slacks, a nice shirt and neck tie so I jumped at the opportunity. It went so well that Leisa asked me if I wouldn’t like to be her go to guy. I gladly accepted.

A few days later I was doing another wedding and before the ceremony I was chatting to the groom about his stay. He and his Fiancé were having a good time but he complained that they had to spend a few days in Bangkok running around doing the paperwork necessary for a proper wedding. I wondered to myself that if I was an ordained minister maybe I could help circumvent the paperwork or at least do the work in advance so the couple could just sign some papers upon arrival. I went online and after a few consultations got myself ordained as a minister. I then contacted all of the pertinent offices in Bangkok to inquire about my idea but it was met with a stern “No, the couple has to come in person.” Oh well nice try. I have since found out that there is a government official here in Khao Lak that has the authority to sign all of the marriage documents. It costs a little more but is better is worth it if you don’t want to go to Bangkok. Another good idea is to do the legal parts in your home country and just come over here for the ceremony. Most of the couples that I marry prefer to do it that way but it’s good to know your options.

Bangkok is a vibrant, bustling city and can be a little overwhelming for some folks but others really enjoy themselves and don’t mind getting the documents done there. One of the best advantages to getting married here in Thailand is the cost. The price of getting married in Thailand is much more affordable than having it at home. Remember you are already here on your honeymoon so it’s almost like a two for one deal!

This season I have been extremely busy as a wedding celebrant in Thailand. I work with quite a few resorts here including; The Sarojin, The Sands, Pullman Khao Lak and Mai Khao Lak. I also do private ceremonies for the locals and even boat christenings! The most rewarding thing about being a wedding celebrant in Thailand is that I get to meet people from all corners of the globe and get to share in one of the most memorable experiences of their lives. It also doesn’t hurt that I get to get out of my busy restaurant for an hour or two and visit one of our beautiful resorts. I hope to continue being a wedding celebrant in the future and if you want to have a wedding in Thailand maybe, if I’m lucky, I will be able to help you celebrate yours too.
