Why not? After you have seen your fill of temples and trekked your boots off up north or dived the Similan Islands in the south, what could be better than spending a few days surfing in Khao Lak? It is well known that Khao Lak has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. What isn’t so well known is the surfing. While they might not be the biggest waves in the world they still can provide a ton of fun. Unlike frenzied Phuket, surfing in Khao Lak is a great way to enjoy the sun, sea and sand. The waves aren’t as big as Kata or Karon Beaches to the south…and a lot less crowded too! The smaller swells and no crowds make this a perfect place for beginning surfers or people who don’t know how to surf. Learning to surf isn’t as hard as you might think. Finding a surf instructor is easy too. There are surf camps and surf academies, surfing websites and surf schools wherever there are waves. Surfing in Khao Lak is a little different. We get waves here from May thru October. This makes a great time of year for a surfing holiday. The surfing community is Khao Lak is very small and very friendly. What started as only a handful of expat surfing enthusiasts a few years ago has grown into two handfuls. The Thai surfers are pretty new to the sport but there are signs that it is catching on. With breaks all along the Andaman Coast there is a break for every level of surfer. For all of you surfing beginners there are great spots to learn how to “ride the wild surf.” Remember…surfing isn’t just for the young ones it’s for everybody. I love surfing and surfing in Thailand is one of the best holiday experiences you could have
